UH-13PT Plan Set

Overall Description:
The UH-13PT twin trainer is our simplest 2-passenger hovercraft featuring direct drive engines for simplicity and a virtually unsinkable foam core hull. The UH-13PT hovercraft makes an excellent father/son, high school or university learning project. The 13PT is perfect for beginners with little building experience and veterans looking to add a fun machine to their collection. Builders will learn composites, mechanics, aerodynamics, fiberglass and wood working. No welding required.
This is a twin engine hovercraft; it uses a 10 to 15 hp (Tecumseh, Briggs, Kohler, Honda or Robin) horizontal shaft thrust engine to turn a 36 inch 2-blade propeller and a 5 to 7 hp vertical shaft lift engine turning a 24 inch 4-blade lift fan. Both engines are direct drive.
The pointed design produces less planing drag and less high speed drag than a craft of equal size with a square front end. This translates into a higher payload capacity, low-power cruising, and a higher top speed. A single joystick controls two flexible rudders and thrust engine throttle. Lift throttle is mounted on the dashboard.
An entry level racing class has been formed for beginner to intermediate competitors by the Hoverclub of America. This class is based around the 13PT design. 15 hp is the maximum allowed horsepower (lift engine + thrust engine). See Hoverclub of America racing for more information.

How it’s made:
It's built from a foam and plywood sandwich construction. The combination of these materials makes a low cost, high strength composite structure that is completely un-sinkable.
Where to fly:
The 13PT will operate on land, water, snow, ice, mud, parking lots, football fields, ponds and rivers. Speed varies over each terrain. Basically, it will run on any relatively smooth surface. Smoother terrain will allow the craft to achieve higher speeds while rough terrain will slow the craft.
